I am constantly looking for the next best foundation so when Estēe Lauder sent me their new Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup in a variety of shades, I was pretty excited to try them out. The Estēe Lauder Double Wear Cushion Stick ($39.50 for 0.47oz) is the brand’s most recent foundation release and is the more light-weight, hydrating version of the cult favorite Double Wear Stay-in-Place.

The Double Wear Cushion Stick is a liquid foundation and applicator in one. The formula is said to provide eight-hour wear with a sheer-to-medium buildable coverage. The product dispenses by twisting the base of the stick until the first drop appears. And I love that if too much makeup is released, you can twist the base back instead of wasting product.

This foundation is supposed to be used with the cushion applicator but you can actually remove the cushion altogether. This is also beneficial for cleaning purposes! I’m a perfect mix of 2N1 and 3N1 so I was able to mix the two shades by removing the cushions from both foundation sticks and dispensing them onto the back of my hand. I found a Beauty Blender applies the makeup perfectly for an even and more-airbrushed look. But I have to admit, I actually liked the cushion applicator better. I was pleasantly surprised after using it that I preferred the coverage it provided when blended with the cushion versus the Beauty Blender. The cushion provided more of a medium coverage while the Beauty Blender sheered it out to a light coverage. I did have to go over a few areas with the Beauty Blender such as around my nose and under the eyes to blend better in hard-to-reach places, but overall I liked the way the cushion applied the product better. If applying two coats of the foundation,

I did dot the product on my face as instructed, however I preferred to use the blotting/dabbing motion with the cushion rather than buffing and swiping as the brand suggests. I found this method to appear streaky, where as if I used the blotting method, it effectively blended the product.

Overall, I love the formula of the Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick and find it perfect for those not-so heavy makeup days. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites! Because I have drier skin, I didn’t find a need to set it with powder, however for those with oilier skin, a setting powder may be best to keep it in place all day. It is a little on the lighter side coverage wise, but is definitely buildable. This would ideally be a great foundation in the summer, but I think the formula also works well in the winter when my skin is drier. The cushion applicator also makes this foundation perfect for traveling! I found it convenient to throw in a makeup bag without having to worry about bringing a foundation brush, or even worse, a Beauty Blender which can be a pain to travel with – there’s never an easy way to pack them!! I’d also give a thumbs up to the longevity of this product as it indeed did last around eight hours with a setting powder. Without a powder, it started to settle into fine lines and by the end of the day it had rubbed off a little around my nose and chin area (I touch my face a lot though – bad habit).

I put together a review/demo so you can see the Double Wear Cushion Stick in action. I applied the foundation on one side of my face, blending with the cushion applicator, then blended the other side of my face with the Beauty Blender. To hear my thoughts, watch the video below!
