New Makeup Storage and Organization

February 4, 2010

My vanity has been so over cluttered and I was constantly knocking things over and making a mess so I knew it was time to find a new makeup storage solution. See the mess?

After watching countless YouTube videos and searching through tons of beauty blogs I finally came up with the perfect solution. I got the idea from What Style Is To Nickel in his makeup collection video on YouTube and I knew it was perfect for me. So I headed over to Ikea to get two of the FIRA Mini Chest with 9 drawers, which turns out is now being discontinued so I was able to get them on sale for $14.99 each. Not a bad deal. I bought some black acrylic paint from Michael’s Craft Store and painted both chests completely black. These were a huge pain to put together, and it turned out the nails that came with the package were useless; I ended up being more successful with Gorilla Glue and tape to hold it together while it dried. They came out perfect!
The second great organization tool I found was the 14-DVD Acrylic Rack from the Container Store for $9.99. This rack fits the MAC palettes perfectly! I was so excited to find this. It works vertically or horizontally. Because I only have three MAC palettes at the moment I was able to fit my makeup brushes underneath. The black pencil cup was $1.99 at Target.
I have two Coastal Scents palettes that are unfortunately too big to fit in the DVD rack so I bought a paper filer and placed them on top of the rack. This isn’t the best solution, but it will work for now. The paper filer was $3.99 at Target as well.

Much better! Do you have any great storage solutions for makeup? Share your ideas in a comment below!
