New NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil shades pack some serious color

July 26, 2010

I had to get my hands on the new NYX Jumbo Pencils when I saw the new colors online. To be honest it was really the teal one that gave me the “gotta have it” feeling. And since Ulta had them on sale, I figured I may as well get all four of the new shades. And I am so glad I did because the colors are both vibrant and stunning.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils in Purple Velvet, Electric Blue, Pure Gold and Rocky Mountain Green

Purple Velvet is a gorgeous deep purple; Electric Blue is a vivid teal; Rocky Mountain Green is a forest green; and Pure Gold is a bright gold. All of them have a sheen to them, not necessarily shimmer or glitter, just an iridescent sheen that makes the colors really pop on the eyelids.

After I got them home, I realized that Purple Velvet and Pure Gold seemed awfully familiar to two other NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils that I already had. So I did a swatch experiment to see how different the colors were.

Purple Velvet, Purple, Pure Gold and Gold

Purple Velvet seemed rather similar to Purple, however when swatched I noticed Purple Velvet is more of a true purple and Purple is more of an iridescent blue-purple.

Pure Gold was a lot lighter and more yellow than Gold, which has more of an orange-copper tint to it. Obviously you could use these colors interchangeably if you are using them as a base since you won’t really be able to notice a big difference in color once eyeshadow is patted on top.

So you really don’t need both colors, I’m just a sucker for NYX Jumbo Pencils, regardless of the color. I almost have them all! But these new shades are very pretty and if you like bright makeup then you will love these new NYX Jumbo Pencils.

They are now available at Ulta, NYX and Cherry Culture. Suggested retail price is $4 each.

    Ahhh! I want!
I have a bunch of the other Jumbo Eyeshadow pencils and I kept wondering why I always have to use Milk when I do blue looks.
Definitely gonna pick up the blue, purple and green ones!

@Chezelle and Spectra: You can sharpen the jumbo pencils by using a jumbo sized pecil sharpener. I beliee they carry one at sephora and ulta. Most drgstore brands carry them too. It's usually combined with a regular-sized sharper and a jumbo-sized sharpener in one. I will also be putting up a depotting NYX Jumbo Pencils tutorial soon since I find it an easier method than to keep having to sharpen them.

@lauraluvsMAC: The NYX Jumbo Pencils are a thich reamy product so yes, they will definitely crease if worn on their own. I, however, use a primer underneath them such as Urban Decay Primer Potion and I also use powder eyeshadows on top of the pencils. I mostly just use the Jumbo Pencils as a color bae to make the eyeshadow colors pop and allow for more color intensity. With the primer and eyeshadows on top I never have any problem with creasing.

I do hope this is not a dumb question, but how do you sharpen those? (And that blue gave me the gotta-have-it-feeling too!)
