I had the chance to go backstage at NYFW for the Latinista SS16 show with Aveda to get insider tips on how to style the “party pony” and was able to first-hand try out Aveda’s new Shampure Dry Shampoo, a non-aerosol powder mist that absorbs excess oil in between shampoos. The innovative packaging makes it perfect for traveling!
I love all the chaos backstage at fashion shows and I’m always entranced by the hairstylists and makeup artists working their magic. And unbelievably quick too! That’s some serious skill. Aveda styled sleek pony tails on the models with hair wrapped around the base and added some extra volume on top of the head.
If you read my NYFW SS16 Beauty Trends post, then you already know that orange eyeshadow is big for spring and summer. The makeup artists at Latinista went for a dramatic orange shaded eye covering the entire lid from the base of lashes to the brow bone sweeping up towards the hairline. This was hands down one of my favorite makeup looks at NYFW!
How to Achieve the “Party Pony”:
Step 1: On dry hair, spray Aveda Thickening Tonic until hair is damp.
Step 2: Begin taking 1″ sections of hair and gently twirl from root to end and set for texture.
Step 3: Once all hair is twirled in sections, take on piece at a time, and blow dry. Lay the dried sections over the face to create volume at the roots while continuing to dry remaining sections.
Step 4: Flip the dried twirls back and with a small amount of Light Elements Defining Whip in hands, gently unravel the twirls and massage hair to create added texture at the crown.
Step 5: Pull hair into low pony tail ensuring the top has volume. Secure with a bungee. Wrap a small section of hair around bungee and secure with a pin under the pony tail.
Step 6: Spray pony tail with Aveda Brilliant Shine-On Spray, then flat iron the pony tail smooth.
Step 7: Finish with a light mist of Aveda Control Force Firm Hair Spray.
And voila! The perfect “Party Pony”.
