NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils pack some major color

March 28, 2010

If you’ve never tried a NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil before, I highly suggest you run over to Ulta to buy one; at LEAST one. These colorful crayon-like pencils make the most amazing bases underneath eyeshadows with corresponding shades. And at around $4 each, why wouldn’t you want to try them?

I take favor to these over MAC Shadesticks and Paint Pots for their convenience and excellent color payoff. They are so easy to use as you can either draw them directly on the eye lid (and even underneath the lower lashline), or you can stroke a brush over the pencil to apply the color with an eyeshadow brush.

The pencils come in a variety of colors and of all the colors they have, I would highly suggest you pick up the one in Milk, a creamy opaque white. Use this under any eyeshadow color to make eyeshadows blend easier and give a blended “airbrushed” look to the eyelid. It also brightens the eye and makes all eyeshadow colors really pop.

If you tend to have greasy eyelids or oily skin, I would recommend putting a neutral base underneath the pencils such as Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Because the pencils have a thick creamy consistency they may crease on those with oilier lids.

Eventually I would like to buy them in every shade, but here is my current NYX Jumbo Pencil collection:

Swatches from left to right: Purple, Horse Raddish, Pots and Pans, Milk, Gold, Hot Pink
NYX Jumbo Pencils can be purchased at any Ulta location or you can purchase them from Cherry Culture online, which are available for a little bit less than what Ulta charges.
