Outside the Lines | Target Beauty Concierge

If you haven’t ventured through the beauty aisles of your local Target yet, you’re in for a fun surprise. You know that professional beauty advice you seek when visiting high-end department stores, only to feel pressured into buying something you really didn’t want? Well, Target has highly trained beauty enthusiasts available in-store to answer any questions you have and offer expert beauty advice – without the pressure.

I met with my local Target Beauty Concierge expert for tips and product recommendations for an every day smoky eye and a fun Halloween look. She offered great product advice and suggestions for affordable eye products that I could easily incorporate into my daily makeup routine and even spice things up for a fun, trendy look. We decided to focus on the eyes for the Outside the Lines theme.

One of the fall trends this year is playing outside the lines to accentuate eyes for a trendy yet wearable look. I let the Beauty Concierge know I wanted a smoky eye, but something a little more subtle that I could wear day to day. She recommended playing up the fall trends with a burgundy shade to smoke out and create an easy, everyday eye look.

We went with Maybelline’s Color Tattoos in Pomegranate Punk for an all-over lid color, and smudged out on the bottom lash line. She gave a great tip for making your eyes appear larger and providing an awakening effect: use a shimmery, gold color in the center of the lid. We went with Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded to add a hint of highlight to the center of the eyelid.

To keep the look subtle, no heavy liner was used. Instead I used a NYX precision liquid liner to carefully line the lash to create the effect of fuller lashes. And then, of course, a healthy sweep of mascara on the lashes.

We also kept the lips subtle with Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs Lip Color in Nude Lust. I love the way this look turned out! I wore this look to work and never once felt overdone. It truly is the perfect everyday smoky eye, while still keeping on trend.

When it comes to Halloween makeup, I don’t like to go overboard anymore. (I used to take Halloween makeup very seriously.) But I still want something a little fun! Keeping with the Outside the Lines theme, we went with dramatic white liner for a look that went with a number of Halloween costumes, but wasn’t so over the top that I felt like a crazy person walking around. I call this “socially acceptable grocery shopping” Halloween makeup. I know you know what I’m talking about here.

We pulled up a runway-inspired white liner look and decided to recreate it using NYX Eyeshadow Base in white and Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Pencil in Cashmere White. Line the eyes as usual, but drag the color down in the inner teardrops to form a unique, elongated eye shape. Using the eye shadow base as a liner first helps the white liner really pop.

Same as the look above, trace the lash line as close as possible using a black liquid liner, and then coat the lashes with lots of mascara. Although I normally stick with Covergirl Lashblast, the Beauty Concerierge recommended trying L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara, letting me know it was a cult favorite among makeup artists. I used to use this years ago, and I’m so glad I decided to try it again. It really is the perfect mascara. Tame your brows with e.l.f. clear mascara to help keep stray eyebrow hairs in place. (I let her know this was a problem for me.) Problem solved!

So there you have it: two easy eye looks with affordable everyday products.

Great looks! Love that target has this now. I’m definitely someone who doesn’t spend a lot on makeup so I shop their often!
