Sorry MAC…I’m having a love affair with bareMinerals

May 8, 2010

Now that the weather is starting to heat up, I’ve noticed that my usual HG foundation, MAC Studio Fix Fluid, is going on too “cakey” and feels awfully heavy on my skin. Since it is a lot warmer now, I’ve also been noticing that liquid foundations aren’t lasting as long on my face as they usually do in the cooler months.

The answer to my problems? The bareMinerals Original Foundation! I’ve used this before and wasn’t very satisfied with the results since I used it during winter when my skin was extremely dry causing the foundation to look too powdery and not smooth at all. My MAC Fix + couldn’t even fix the problem.

But now that my skin isn’t nearly as dry and I prefer something lighter on my face in warmer weather, I figured I’d give bareMinerals another go. And boy am I glad I did because my face makeup has never looked better. So sorry MAC, but bareMinerals has officially become my HG foundation for everyday use.

I use the bareMinerals Original Foundation in Medium Beige (2N) and it is a perfect match that works when I’m more pale (MAC NC25) and when I’m super tan (MAC NC35). With liquid foundations I have to use different shades for when my skin tone changes which can be a pain to match and rather costly. But my bareMinerals will work perfectly regardless of my skin tone which makes it the perfect foundation for summer.

With bareMinerals, my blemishes, scars and freckles (which I always try and cover up) almost vanish. The bareMinerals gives even better coverage for me than MAC Studio Fix Fluid and it evens out my skin tone, while also giving my skin a natural, healthy glow. My makeup looks flawless and airbrushed with bareMinerals and it still feels incredibly light on my skin. It lasts throughout the entire day and I find I don’t even have to touch up my makeup, where as Studio Fix Fluid tends to look patchy on me by the end of the day, even with a setting powder. With bareMinerals I don’t need a setting powder which is one less step in my makeup process, allowing me to get ready in less time.

I use the bareMinerals Flawless Face Brush and I have to say it is one of the worst brushes I have ever used. It is extremely scratchy, almost to the point where it hurts and it is a pain to wash. However, it truly does make your makeup look flawless. The secret to making bareMinerals work is this brush. For some reason out of all the brushes I’ve tried, this is the one brush that works best with bareMinerals. So I put up with its scratchiness for the name of beauty.

Another thing I found that makes the bareMinerals work so well is applying a really good moisturizer to my face before I apply the foundation. I use Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream since it is so thick and is the only moisturizer I have tried that helps keep my face from drying out (although I would not recommend using this on your face if you break out easily). The moisturizer helps the foundation look airbrushed and keeps it from looking dry and powdery. I also spritz a few sprays of MAC Fix + over my makeup when I’m finished as a final touch to help “melt” the foundation together.

So if you are looking for a good foundation for the summer, try bareMinerals. You just might like it more than your liquid foundations.
