The Body Shop Tantalizing Lip Butter Review

February 7, 2010

After seeing a few pictures of The Body Shop’s Tantalizing Lip Butter being used in several makeup forums, I was eager to get my hands on it. This lip treatment apparently not only cures chapped lips and dryness, but it also works as a great gloss over lipstick that gives lips a glow without the sticky mess of a normal lipgloss. The Body Shop Website says, “Dragon fruit extract has natural antioxidant properties that help restore moisture and protect delicate skin.” And while I really was in no need of another lip balm, since I have a chapstick in just about every nook and cranny, I was drawn to this stuff due to Laura of Lollipop26’s blog post of what it looked like placed over lipsticks. (Click here to see what I’m talking about.)

But I have to admit, I’m not very impressed. This is really just your standard lip balm and this glow effect over lipstick can really be achieved with just about any lip balm or chapstick that is white in color. However, proceeds of this product goes “to support the 2009 campaign raising awareness on HIV and AIDS in partnership with MTV in order to raise funds for the Staying Alive Foundation, a worldwide HIV and AIDS prevention resource.” So, although a bit pricey at $8 for a half empty pot, at least the proceeds go to a good cause.

The Body Shop’s Tantalizing Lip Butter

  • Nudes out lips
  • Adds a glow and lightens lipstick color
  • Moisturizes lips
  • Has a pleasant smell of Dragon fruit (but smells more like Mango to me)
  • Proceeds go to a good cause

  • Overpriced
  • Nothing special
  • Pot is only half full

Overall: If you’re expecting great things from this lip butter, you might be just as disappointed as I was. But, if you’re looking for a new lip treatment anyway and don’t mind paying the $8 for it, then at least you get a new lip balm and you’re helping out a good foundation to help spread awareness of an important cause.
