When it comes to skincare, I’ve tried it all. Ok, maybe not everything. But we’re talking a lot of skincare products I’ve tested, used, sworn by and repurchased. But skincare is pricey, for a good reason. You want to make sure you’re only putting the best ingredients on your face. So naturally, the best will cost you. But what are you really paying for when it comes to pricey household name brands? Is it the ingredients? Or the branding?
When I first stumbled upon The Ordinary skincare, a Deciem brand, I was skeptical. How good could this stuff possibly be when the highest price tag is $15? Well, I’ve put them to the test. And not only am I impressed, but I’m ready to shout this skincare line from the mountain tops. Guys, stop paying insane amounts of money for skincare. This is truly the best affordable skincare you’ll ever find. They’re also vegan and cruelty-free!
So what products are the best and worth trying? Here is a breakdown of my top products from The Ordinary Skincare line.
A water-based serum with hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5 that hydrates, smooths, and plumps the skin.
Good For: Dry skin, loss of elasticity
Thoughts: Hyaluronic acids are part of my daily skincare routine so this product is a must for me. I use this every morning with my daily moisturizer before applying my makeup for silky, plump skin that feels moisturized all day.
$8.00 / 30ml
A lightweight, non-greasy oil that hydrates skin and promotes an even, bright tone.
Good For: Dry skin, dullness, dark spots, hyperpigmentation
Thoughts: I use the rose hip seed oil about once or twice a week incorporating into my normal skincare routine. I prefer to use this on no-makeup days or at night before my moisturizer to brighten my skin, especially when it’s dull or dry. It also blends beautifully if used with a liquid foundation and a Beauty Blender!
$11.50 / 30ml
A water-based serum with multiple antiaging technologies that visibly improves signs of aging.
Good For: Dullness, dry skin, loss of elasticity, dark spots, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles
Thoughts: This is a one-and-done product. I use it about once a week at night for anti-aging and to fight against wrinkles. The consistency is very strange, but I did notice a difference pretty quickly around some sun spots on my face. This product is truly the best bang for your buck.
$15 / 30ml
A water-based exfoliating toner with glycolic acid and botanical extracts that brightens skin and promotes a radiant, even tone.
Good For: Dullness, dark spots, hyperpigmentation, uneven tone and texture
Thoughts: This reminds me of the Pixi Glow Tonic, but with a much lower price tag for the same amount of product. I love using this after I’ve removed my makeup at night to remove any excess oils or dirt. I use this nightly before applying serum and moisturizer. One of my favorite toners for brighter skin!
$9 / 240ml
A water-based serum with two next-generation retinoids that visibly improves signs of aging without irritation.
Good For: Fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, hyperpigmentation, loss of elasticity, uneven tone and texture
Thoughts: This is hands down my favorite anti-aging product for both its effectiveness and delicate formula. My skin is never irritated or red after using this product. I use it about 3 times a week at night before applying my moisturizer. You really can’t beat the price on this retinoid formula.
$10 / 30ml
