David Bowie Makeup Tutorial Under $25

As an ode to the late singer-songwriter, I thought I’d honor the man who made the lightning bolt famous for Halloween this year. David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album cover is iconic so I decided to recreate the look in partnership with Walmart to share this David Bowie makeup tutorial with beauty products under $25!

The Makeup

Since almost everyone already has a trusty foundation and concealer on hand, I didn’t include that in my $25 budget. I used a lipstick for the main portion of the bolt – Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Siren was the perfect orange-red shade. Then I used the L’Oreal Infallible Paints Eyeshadow Duo in Mint Detox for the teal portion. This was truly an amazing find, the color couldn’t have been more perfect – and it was under $8! To add dimension to the lightning bolt I used Wet n Wild Proline Graphic Marker Eyeliner and topped off the whole bolt and face with Wet n Wild Mego Glo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals (one of my favorite budget highlighters, by the way). The Maybelline Fuscia Fever eyeshadow worked flawlessly for the pink contour and shadow as well.

Using Scotch tape, I outlined the lightning bolt and found it easiest to do it in sections. This seemed more complicated than it was. I just simply eyed it to create the shape mimicking an image I had saved on my phone. I also pressed the tape on the back of my hand before placing on my face to remove some of the stickiness. This prevented the rest of the makeup from budging or coming off when removing the tape.

The Hair

To mimic Bowie’s hairstyle on the album cover, I added height to the front of my hair by using L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray and the best teasing comb – another great budget find at Walmart! I also slicked back the sides of my hair and tied everything back into a tight bun.

For some major glam, I threw on my fluffiest pink faux fur coat, and voilà! The easiest Halloween costume and all I needed was a few key beauty products and Scotch tape from Walmart. All under $25. BOOM. That’s how you do Halloween on a budget. You can even order online at Walmart.com for free 2-day shipping or choose to pick up in store! How easy is that? Watch the full video below…
